According to DNR regulations firewood must be from Wisconsin and must be from less than 25 miles from where you plan to burn it. However, we do sell firewood for fall, winter, and spring campers.
-
Beginning on Indigenous Peoples’ Day (the second Monday of October) through the Thursday of Memorial Day Weekend, firewood will be provided based on the length of your stay for Spruce and Bridge Builder cabins ONLY. Firewood bundles are the same as the bundles we sell in the summer! Family Camp Nawakwa provides a maximum of four nights of firewood.
- • For a two night stay, we provide firewood for both nights.
- • For a three night stay, we provide firewood for two nights.
- • For a four night stay, we provide firewood for three nights.
- • For a five night stay, we provide firewood for four nights.
There is a charge for additional firewood for longer fires and/or more nights. An additional bundle of firewood costs $7 and can be added to your account balance. Ten extra bundles of firewood will be left in Spruce and Bridge Builder cabins for your convenience. Take what you need, and upon your departure, our staff will check how many bundles are left and charge accordingly. Extra bundles for Spruce cabin are on the porch. Extra bundles for Bridge Builder cabin are in the closet in the foyer.
Spruce and Bridge Builder cabins are the only cabins with an indoor fireplace. All other cabins are able to purchase firewood for an outdoor fire, weather conditions permitting. We do not clear snow from the outdoor cabin fire pits. Campers can gather wood to burn as long as it’s dead and down. Do not cut down any live trees! Camp Nawakwa will not provide an ax.
Tip: For kindling, pull away small pieces from the provided firewood or collect sticks from outside. Place those sticks near the fireplace or cabin heater to dry them out. Scrap paper is available in the office upon request. -
We strive to make camp a positive experience for everyone. Our staff are trained to monitor camper behavior and are mandated reporters if they see or hear suspicious behavior. However, at all times, parents, guardians, or caretakers are responsible for their own behavior, as well as the behavior of their children. YMCA Family Camp Nawakwa staff will intervene only in the event of imminent danger or injury.
We work hard not to dismiss campers from camp. However, some cases require us to send a camper home, such as if they begin to endanger others or if they require an unsustainable amount of attention from one or more staff members. -
For packing efficiency, we recommend soft-sided luggage. You will need to bring bath and dish towels, as well as bedding or sleeping bags and pillows for your family. Also, you will need to bring soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, shaving supplies, first aid, flashlight, etc.
The weather in northern Wisconsin is variable at any time of the year. We encourage campers to bring clothes that can get dirty and to bring enough clothing to last the entire session. There are several coin operated laundry facilities in nearby Lac du Flambeau, Minocqua, and Woodruff.
With regards to food, you will need to purchase groceries in either Minocqua or Woodruff. Cabins have a refrigerator, four-burner gas stovetop, oven, microwave, coffee pot, toaster, pots and pans, kitchen utensils, and dishes. Milk, bread, soda, pizza, candy, chips, etc. are a few of the food items sold in the camp store. Unfortunately, Family Camp Nawakwa does not provide food services to groups at this time.
Campers are responsible for their own belongings. Parents are encouraged to mark their child's belongings with their name. We do our best to locate and return lost items, however, we will not reimburse families for lost clothing or other items brought to camp. We will hold all items left at camp for one month. -
The camp store will be open between Memorial day through the end of September. Store items include:
- Candy
- Ice Cream
- Pizza

- Limited Grocery Items (mainly dry goods)
