Our History
In 1858, Chicago’s first YMCA was created as a place where young men could socialize and improve themselves. Over the following 150+ years, the YMCA has far expanded its reach, having served the entire community through wars, pandemics, and social change on every level. Through it all, the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago has stayed true to its roots of offering programs, resources, and a place of belonging for where all people can be nurtured and supported.
