Introducing the West Garfield Park YMCA!

Here at the West Garfield Park YMCA, located in the Sankofa Village Wellness Center, we believe in the transformative Power of Play! Whether it’s through sports and fitness, childcare and youth programming, or any of our other core community services, we strive to provide endless opportunities for growth and support that promote holistic wellbeing for all. 

The Sankofa Wellness Village in Garfield Park

Residents, faith-based and health care institutions, nonprofits — including the YMCA of Metro Chicago! — and other stakeholders in Garfield Park are working to revitalize the neighborhood’s commercial quarter and break the cycle of disinvestment through a new initiative called the Sankofa Wellness Village. The Sankofa Wellness Village will create opportunities for West Garfield Park residents of all ages to have access to health and recreation services, business development, healthy food, and the arts. 

The Sankofa Village Wellness Center will be the (literal!) center of the Sankofa Wellness Village, where individuals and families can access programs, offerings, and services that empower all people. As part of the Sankofa Village Wellness Center, the West Garfield Park YMCA will offer fitness and sports, childcare and youth programming, and more.

Discover Our Brand New Space

Addressing a variety of needs, the Sankofa Village Wellness Center will provide an exercise facility and comprehensive healthcare for all ages, as well as drop-in childcare services, a community-owned credit union, and financial education classes. This center is designed for collaboration and impact with the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago, Rush University System for Health, West Side United, Erie Family Health Centers, and Leaders Network Credit Union.     Our drop-in childcare offering provides a safe and engaging space for children of Sankofa Village Wellness Center guests, where youth will discover new ways to play under the supervision of highly trained and certified Y staff.
