We Had a Slam Dunk of a Time at World Basketball Day 2024! 🏀

Wow, what an incredible day we had at the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago’s World Basketball Day 2024 on December 21! It may be a new year, but the excitement still feels fresh! 

This year’s event was nothing short of spectacular, showcasing the passion and talent of future basketball stars from across Chicagoland. From intense skills and drills sessions to the thrilling Hot Spot Competition, every moment was packed with energy and determination. 

Our young athletes were on fire, mastering their dribbling, perfecting their shooting, and pushing their limits in every challenge. The future of basketball is shining bright! A huge shoutout to our competition winners, who scored free tickets to a 2025 Chicago Sky game and a DePaul Blue Demons basketball game, thanks to our amazing partners at DePaul Athletics and the Chicago Sky! 

“World Basketball Day not only highlighted the future of basketball, but it also showcased how sports bring people from all walks of life together for their shared love of the game,” said Sona Jones, the YMCA’s Chief Health & Wellbeing Officer. “We’re honored to be part of this incredible journey and are dedicated to providing memorable athletic programs and experiences to our Chicagoland communities.” 

The fun didn’t stop there! At the South Side Y, we had a surprise visit from Skye the Lioness, the Chicago Sky mascot! She was all in for photo ops, and her positive energy was contagious.
