USMC Veteran and YMCA Fitness Director George Hood to Attempt 2 World Records in 24 Hours
U.S. Marine Officer Veteran, former DEA Supervisory Special Agent, and current Fitness Director at the Indian Boundary YMCA, George E. Hood will attempt two new world records for the “plank” in 24 hours!
Hood’s fundraising event, the “2x24 Diamond Tour,” will take place in Chicago on June 27 and 28, to celebrate his 60th birthday year and fundraise for a great cause — the YMCA. Leading up to the event in June, Hood’s training events at Indian Boundary YMCA (IBY) serve as fundraisers for IBY and the YMCA of Metro Chicago’s Urban Warriors program. Urban Warriors, part of the Y’s Youth Safety and Violence Prevention (YSVP) initiative, is a trauma-informed and curriculum-based program that pairs experienced veterans with Chicago youth exposed to violence.
George prepared for these attempts through four training sessions that were broadcast live on Indian Boundary Y's Facebook page. On April 28, Hood held a plank for 5 hours, 25 minutes and then an additional 30-minute recovery set (surpassing his 5-hour goal). On May 7, he held the plank position for 7 hours followed by an additional 30-minute recovery set (surpassing his 6 hours and 30 minutes goal).
