Team YMCA Crosses the Finish Line at the 2024 Bank of America Chicago Marathon

On Sunday, October 8, 2024, the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago participated in the Bank of America Chicago Marathon as a Charity Partner for the third consecutive year! 

We are incredibly proud of all our Team YMCA runners who took on the challenge of the 2024 Chicago Marathon earlier this month. Our 39 runners spent the last year preparing for the 26.2 mile run, while also going the extra mile of fundraising for the YMCA of Metro Chicago. 

“My first time experiencing the Chicago Marathon was in 2023 as a volunteer,” said Alex Poppen, Team YMCA runner. “The energy and excitement were so amazing, so when I saw the opportunity to run my first marathon and raise money for the YMCA in 2024, I jumped at the opportunity. I worked hard all year long to accomplish a goal, and I did it. My friends and family came out to cheer me on and celebrate my success. I was able to raise money for a great cause. It really was an amazing day that I'll never forget!”

Additional thanks to everyone who came out to the Team YMCA Cheer Zone during the marathon last weekend. We gathered at the Crown Family YMCA’s parking lot, conveniently located near the 17-mile marker on Jackson Boulevard, to provide motivation and energy to our runners as they pushed forward! We had a DJ, encouraging signs, water and snack stations, a bounce house, and fun games to pump up the mood.  

Through their dedication and teamwork, Team YMCA runners raised more than $45,000! Funds contribute to YMCA initiatives and programs designed to strengthen and empower Chicagoland communities through the Power of Play, providing a safe, encouraging space for all people to learn, grow, and thrive.
