South Side YMCA partners with streetwear brand Chicago Culture Gear on Juneteenth t-shirt fundraiser
Juneteenth, a national celebration of the end of slavery in the United States, commemorates June 19, 1865, the day when Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas to proclaim that the Civil War had ended and that enslaved people were free.
In keeping with the Y’s belief that all families deserve the right to self-determination and healthy communities, the South Side YMCA is hosting its annual Juneteenth Community BBQ and partnering with streetwear vendor Chicago Culture Gear on a t-shirt fundraiser.
Chicago Culture Gear, a Black woman-owned apparel brand passionate about community connection and expressing Chicago’s cultural richness through clothing, will donate 10% of proceeds from the sale of their Juneteenth t-shirt design to the South Side Y. These funds directly support the center’s programs, ensuring that families in the Woodlawn, Hyde Park, Jackson Park, and South Shore neighborhoods can enjoy the full breadth of the Y’s programming.
Designed and hand-printed locally, Chicago Culture Gear’s Juneteenth t-shirt is the perfect way to celebrate liberation, support Black-owned businesses, and contribute to the Y’s community impact all at once.
To make sure your Juneteenth t-shirt arrives in time to wear at the South Side Y’s Juneteenth Community BBQ and any other celebrations taking place June 19, be sure to order today or before June 10!
