Recap: CityKey Registration Events at Rauner Family YMCA & Kelly Hall YMCA

Unlock Chicago with CityKey — an initiative that empowers all Chicago residents to discover the city’s resources and opportunities!

As a Chicago CityKey partner, the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago worked with the CityKey team to connect our community members with this amazing resource at our in-person registration events, where we served as a one-stop shop for people to register and print a CityKey ID. Our first two events to connect Chicago resources to our communities were hosted at the Rauner Family YMCA and Kelly Hall YMCA. Upcoming events can be found at the McCormick YMCA, Irving Park YMCA, and South Side YMCA

The Chicago CityKey program works to ensure that all Chicago residents have an official government ID that also acts as a Ventra, Chicago Public Library, and Rx Discount card! Plus, CityKey ID holders can access benefits and discounts to various Chicago-based businesses and organizations, from restaurants to museums to financial institutions, and more! The YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago is proud to be a Chicago CityKey partner, offering one-month Play Passes to CityKey holders.

“Both the YMCA and CityKey are dedicated to ensuring all Chicagoans have access to the resources they need to thrive, so this partnership was natural,” said Mary Stonor Saunders, Senior Executive Director, YMCA of Metro Chicago. “As a community hub for the neighborhoods we serve, we’re excited to offer another opportunity for people to unlock their potential and all the joys the city has to offer.”

More than 300 people showed up to our two events to register for CityKey IDs. Thank you to the CityKey team for making these events a seamless process and to the Alliance of Local Service Organizations and the Mission of Our Lady of the Angels for helping to spread the word about the Kelly Hall Y event throughout our community. Additional thanks to Enlace Chicago, the Chinese American Service League, Mount Sinai Hospital, Chicago Public Library – Lozano Branch, Xilin Association Chicago Center, Rush University Medical Center, and Starbucks – Little Village for sharing resources at the Rauner Family Y event.

“CityKey is more than just an ID — it’s a key to opportunity, offering discounts at pharmacies, museums, and even a chance to try out membership at the YMCA,” said Teresa Barajas, Executive Director, Rauner Family YMCA. “Hosting this event at the Rauner Family Y was a great way to connect residents not only with their CityKey but also with local resources, including the library, health organizations, and other community partners.”
