Introducing Our Community to Coding at the South Side YMCA!
The YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago is excited to offer a new and unique opportunity for middle school students provided at no cost. Hosted at the South Side YMCA’s Tech Hub, powered by Xfinity, our Intro to Python Program teaches the fundamentals of Python coding and allows youth to explore careers in technology and develop valuable skills in a fun and supportive environment. This 6-week program is designed for youth in grades 6–8 and begins Saturday, January 25, 2025, taking place on Saturday afternoons from 12 to 1 p.m.
This Intro to Python Program provides hands-on experience with Python which is a beginner-friendly programming language widely used in the technology industry. Guided by an experienced instructor who has built a successful career in technology, students will explore the basics of coding while sparking their creativity and problem-solving skills. To minimize barriers to digital equity, this program is offered at no cost, and all requisite materials and resources are provided to participants.
Spaces are limited, and registration is offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Do you know any youth who may be interested? Secure their spot today by clicking on this link to register now.
Beyond this program, the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago is deeply committed to promoting digital equity within our communities. Our efforts focus on bridging the digital divide by providing access to technology and digital literacy resources through initiatives like our Tech Hubs and technology programs.
Located at several YMCA Community Hubs, our Tech Hubs offer free access to computers, internet, and digital literacy support, helping community members with tasks such as job searching, online learning, and accessing essential services. You can learn more about our digital equity work here.
Don’t miss out on this exciting chance to prepare your youth for a bright future in technology. We look forward to welcoming them to the South Side YMCA Tech Hub on January 25!
