Meet Our Day Camp Team: Kate Mueller

Kate Mueller, Youth and Family Manager of the Elmhurst YMCA, loves working with community members, especially with the Elmhurst Y youth. She recently graduated from Saint Louis University with a bachelor’s degree in public health. Before becoming Youth and Family Manager, Kate worked at the Y as a Day Camp counselor and unit leader — this is her fifth summer at the Elmhurst Y! 

In her free time, Kate enjoys doing yoga, singing (she was in a college acapella group!), and spending time with my friends and family.

Q: What is your favorite part of working at the YMCA? 

A: My favorite part of working at the YMCA is working with the incredible team at [the Elmhurst Y]. It is so great to always feel supported by the people who work alongside you! 

Q: What do you like most about the work that the Y does? 

A: There is so much work that the Y does that actively supports the communities they are in. For me, the Y is a place where you can come and belong, and I find that to be a special quality!

Q: What is your favorite part about Day Camp at the Y? 

A: Camp is truly one of the most fun experiences. I would say my favorite part about Day Camp at the Y is singing camp songs with all the campers!

Q: What is your favorite memory from Day Camp at the Y?

A: My favorite memory from Day Camp was going to Morton Arboretum with all the kids! 

Q: What are you most proud of in your career so far? 

A: I am most proud of the connections I have made with the families in my community.

Q: What’s one thing people don’t know about you that they would be surprised to find out? 

A: I know 100 digits of pi from memory!

Q: If you could have any superpower, what would it be (and why)? 

A: I would definitely want to be able to fly! I love to travel and [flying] would make traveling so much simpler. 

Q: What’s the last song you listened to? 

A: “Flowers” by Miley Cyrus.

Q: What’s one thing on your bucket list? 

A: I want to [visit] all 50 [states in the] United States (Only 20 more to go!).
